Get Your Paperwork in Order

Make sure you have any important documents. Besides items like passports or credit cards, be sure to get copies of medical or school records. Don’t pack any of these, but make sure you keep them safe and secure. Cancel or transfer any subscriptions, bank or investment accounts, or health club memberships, and make sure to submit a forwarding address to the post office.

Clean and Pack

Movers don’t want to pack anything that’s dirty. Clean your furniture and other belongings before you begin to pack.  If possible, clean the new home or hire it done, so you won’t have to move into a dirty place. When you’re packing, try to stary organized and carefully label each box with as much detail as possible. Keep any special valuables or medications in your suitcase rather than packing them away.

Ship or Drive?

If you’re moving a long distance, you might enjoy the road trip to your new city, or you might prefer to ship your car there.
