Moving to a new city is a big deal. How can you be sure this new place is right for you? If you’re considering moving to Dallas, Texas, we can help.
How urban are you? Dallas is a huge city of well over a million people, but it’s actually smaller in population than San Antonio and Houston. It also has a wide variety of suburbs, some with a small-town feel.
Are you a car person? Dallas has been slowly adding more bus and rail options over the years, but it’s still considered to be very much a car town.
Do you like to go to sporting events? Dallas is home to several major sports teams including the Cowboys (NFL), the Stars (NHL), the Mavericks (NBA) and the Texas Rangers (MLB.)
Do you live to eat? Dallas is a diverse city with a huge variety of restaurants, but it’s best known for having excellent barbecue, as well as authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex options.
Does heat bother you? If you’re from up north, Dallas summers might be an adjustment for you, as it’s known as a hot and humid city. But winters are mild, and spring and fall are gorgeous.
Do you like to get wet? If you live for beaches, salt water and surfing, you might want to move to the Houston area, but Dallas has lots of great rivers and lakes for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing and boating.
Do you love paying state income tax? If you answered yes, I have bad news for you. Texas has no state income tax. That’s one reason people keep moving to the state.
How do you feel about parks? Dallas has over 400 parks, with over 21,000 acres of parkland and 17 lakes. The city has dozens of public pools, hundreds of playgrounds, and over 60 miles of biking and jogging trails. This includes the 30 acre Katy Trail, named “Best Public Place” by Urban Land Institute. If you like to get out, Dallas is a good place for you.
Does higher learning interest you? If you have college plans, or have teenage kids, check out the 38 colleges and universities with locations in the Dallas Ft Worth area. This includes some very large schools, such as the University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at Dallas, and Texas A&M University-Commerce.
